Waxahachie I.S.D. Partners in Education’s Adopt-A-Class program is making plans for the new 2020-21 school year. Adopt-a-Class matches businesses, organizations, and churches with individual third-grade classrooms district-wide.
Adopt-A-Class actively engages the community in the learning experiences in WISD schools and strengthens the bond between the schools and their community. Through this partnership, students learn more about their community and benefit from the unique skills and resources of their adopting organizations.
Businesses of any size, as well as churches and civic organizations, may adopt a class after each volunteer completes volunteer registration.
Adopt-a-Class will have a different look this year; however, the connection with the classroom is as valuable as ever. Adopters will serve as virtual volunteers in such ways as virtual tours of places of business, “how-to” demonstrations, sending recorded greetings of encouragement, and sending
notes and cards during special events, testing, birthdays, and holidays. Adopters are encouraged to serve their adopted teacher and classroom in ways that best fit the needs of each individual classroom.
Adopt-A-Class partners are asked to connect twice a month with their teacher and class. Teachers will also provide a wish list of supplies needed for their classroom and partners are asked to give a one-time contribution of $50.00 towards this list.
“We are very grateful to our outstanding community for their support of the Adopt-a-Class program in
Waxahachie ISD,” said Melissa Cobb, WISD Director of Partners in Education. “Many businesses, churches, and service organizations faithfully continue their support of this program. We welcome new adopters to join us as we connect virtually this year!”
